Meeting
Minutes – Thursday, May 21, 2009
Branch President, Russell Williams, called the meeting to
order at 7pm with five members present.
Martha lead us in an opening
prayer.
EXECUTIVE
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Russell presented brief treasurer’s report. We have
$1,940 in checking account. Signature card at bank needs to be changed from old
officers to the current ones.
All three officers attended the governor’s banquet to
celebrate NAACP’s 100th anniversary. Russell also plans to attend a
Frederick Chapter Anniversary Dinner as well. He also announced opening of
Habitat for Humanity’s new store “Re-store” which sells building materials,
appliances, and furniture at thrift store prices.
Vice President Hampton discussed plans to host
information tables at major summer festivals and events
and the need to have business cards printed, especially for the President.
OTHER
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
Education - Chairperson Russell Williams discussed
progress of High Schools Skills Assessments. More students are passing and will
graduate (about 98%), but Baltimore is still having problems with a low pass
rate.
Most other committees need a chairperson.
OLD
BUSINESS
Louise Wolfe has created a basic web page for the branch
at www.naacp-md-wc.org. It will cost
less than $100 a year.
Branch still needs a Treasurer, to be chosen by the
Executive Committee.
NEW
BUSINESS
Branch needs to create a budget for the year.
We also need to plan a Freedom Fund Dinner.
Plans are being made to invite guest speakers for short
presentations at future meetings.
Meeting was adjourned at 8pm.
